Rancho Santa Fe Mediterranean Gardens

Once an unassuming lawn, the outdoor spaces of this Mediterranean-inspired home presented the challenge of balancing intimate garden experiences with expansive views of the surrounding golf course and chaparral hills. The homeowner wanted a landscape that reflected the home’s Spanish Mediterranean architecture while enhancing its elevated setting. Changes in elevation, strong sightlines, and existing materials required a design that felt cohesive and intentional.

We resolved these challenges through thoughtful material continuity and layered design. Stepping stones and sandstone hardscape connect the landscape to the home, while linear paths, subtle patios, and water features create a natural flow through the garden. Strategic plantings provide privacy and softness while preserving open views toward the fairway. At the rear of the property, terraced planters, stairways, and an updated pool area elegantly manage elevation changes, resulting in a serene Mediterranean garden that feels both immersive and open, with the surrounding landscape as its focal point.
